First-Year Students

Your Future Starts Here

The UIC Orientation for first-year students is a two-day overnight Orientation designed to acquaint you with UIC, ensure your success by providing information and up-to-date resources, and provide you with your first opportunity to meet with an academic advisor.

When making travel arrangements, please be aware that all activities are mandatory and students may neither arrive late nor leave early. An overnight stay is required for the first-year program. We will provide on-campus overnight accommodations for each student.

Policies

Program Date Change or Cancellation Policy

Should you, for any reason, need to cancel or modify a reservation – for either yourself, a family member, or a guest – you must do so a minimum of seven days prior to your scheduled date by changing your reservation status in my.uic.edu.

Changes or cancellations made less than seven days prior to the scheduled date of your program will result in the respective Orientation fees being assessed, regardless of your attendance to the University. Additionally, if you or your guests fail to attend your scheduled Orientation, the appropriate Orientation fees will be applied to your student account. If you have any questions about this policy, please email orhelp@uic.edu or call (312) 996-3271.

Leaving Campus

When staying on campus for Orientation, first-year students participating in the program are not allowed to leave campus for any reason. Leaving campus will result in immediate dismissal from the program.

Alcohol and Illegal Drug Policy

Alcohol and illegal drugs are not allowed at Orientation. Students are expected to abide by federal, state, and local law, as well as university policies.

Please be aware that as a participant in Orientation, you are subject to UIC policies regarding alcohol use and illegal drugs, which can be found on the University’s website at: uic.edu/homeindex/safety/alcohol_drugs.shtml.

If you are found in violation of these rules, you will be asked to leave Orientation and are subject to the student conduct process.

Keys and Room Checkout

First-Year: students must return any assigned keys and linens upon Orientation check-out. Should you lose any items assigned to you, your student account will be charged a minimum of $150 as a replacement fee. Depending on the volume of items lost, this cost may increase.
