Description: The African American Cultural Center is celebrating its 25th anniversary with the last of three installments of the exhibition series “In Retrospect…” featuring works of six Chicago artist who previously exhibited at the center during 1991-2012. Description: Spark in the Park is UIC’s music festival on campus. This free private event is open to UIC students, faculty, and staff. In 2010 as a back-to-school event, Spark in the Park was designed to bring local, national, little known, and well-known artists to campus. The music fest offers an eclectic mix of entertainment for UIC’s diverse campus community. While listening to, the music fest audience also can enjoy food and beverages provided by UIC Dining Services and giveaways sponsored by additional campus departments.

Description: New international students are paired up with U.S. students to participate in one-on-one and group activities throughout the semester. International partners learn about UIC and the surrounding community and local culture. U.S. partners benefit by learning about other countries, cultures, values and traditions. The program provides unique opportunities for its participants to interact and educate each other about their cultures, countries, perspectives and their life experiences. Additionally, it gives students the opportunity for involvement and leadership in a meaningful extracurricular activity. What should you do? You should join us for the Fast Food Taste and Tour of course! Come out and learn how the deep-fried, super-sized world of fast food can be seen from a lightened-up perspective on this guided tour around the Inner Circle and SCE. Description: For international students and scholars new to the mid-western U.S., winter is often an exciting but intimidating concept. This workshop aims to demystify the season by providing participants with realistic expectations of winter weather and practical strategies to survive and thrive. Topics include common snowfall and temperatures, appropriate clothing, winter driving, staying warm at home, and seasonal mental health. Lastly, participants are encouraged to embrace the positive aspects of winter and all the seasonal activities available in the city and surrounding area. This event is only available for international students and scholars.

Description: Catalyst is a one-day leadership retreat designed to allow participants the time and space to consider powerful questions that move them toward action. Catalyst creates a community for participants to engage in meaningful dialogue about leadership, integrity, change, and possibility. This event is free with both breakfast and lunch provided. All UIC students, including graduate students, are encouraged to apply, but space is limited!
