Program Details

UIC Orientation for international first-year and transfer students will attend a one-day orientation program (no overnight component) that will occur between August 12th-16th, 2019. Please log into the online orientation portal at to see available dates.

In addition to attending UIC Orientation, please be sure to attend the New International Student Welcome Events offered through the Office of International Services.


Check-in for this program begins at 7:45am-8:15am in Student Center East (SCE) located at 750 S. Halsted St. Please follow the signs and Orientation Leaders to the check-in location. If driving, please plan accordingly with Chicago traffic. The closest parking structure is the Halsted Street Parking Structure (760 W. Taylor St) which costs $13 per day.

All new international students attending UIC on a non-immigrant visa status must complete the Office of International Services (OIS) check-in process prior to attending the UIC Undergraduate Orientation by bringing immigration documents to the OIS office. Students can also bring the documents listed below on the day of orientation to complete the OIS check-in process.


For attendance at this program, there is a fee of $75 for each student and $75 for each family member or guest. Fees will post to your account in late summer to avoid mid-summer financial aid conflicts when trying to register for classes. Please plan accordingly for this charge to post to your account prior to your start at UIC.

IDENTIFICATION: A government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, state ID, or passport.  For questions regarding alternate forms of identification, contact UIC Orientation at 312-996-3271.

DOCUMENTS FOR OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL SERVICES: You must complete an immigration check-in to have your SEVIS hold removed and allow for course registration. Please bring the following documents to orientation: passport; visa; I-20, DS-2019 or your approval notice of current status; I-94 card; I-901 SEVIS fee receipt (F-1 & J-1 students only); copy of your insurance (J-1 students only). COMFORTABLE CLOTHES/SHOES: Comfortable walking shoes and appropriate clothing for the day’s weather. We recommend avoiding open-toed and heeled shoes.

MONEY: Money for miscellaneous expenses, such as university apparel or other spirit gear.

NetID & PASSWORD: Your NetID and the password you use to log in to
