Parent & Family Orientation

Here’s what families and supporters can expect during Orientation:

• Learn about key campus resources and support services
• Understand academic expectations and student responsibilities
• Gain insight into the college transition experience
• Explore ways to support your student while encouraging independence
• Connect with campus staff and other families

Families are welcome to attend Orientation and will participate in sessions designed specifically for supporters.

Please note:

• Some portions of the program are student-only to support independence and peer connection
• Families will have dedicated sessions focused on resources, expectations, and student success
• Guest spaces are limited at orientation. Guests who are not registered in advance are not guaranteed to attend the program. We will allow walk-in guests on the day of the program, as space permits.
• There is a $75 fee for each registered guest. Guest fees will be charged to your student account following your orientation session.
• We encourage students to bring a guest who will support them throughout their academic journey at UIC, such as a parent or guardian. Guests and students should expect to participate in separate portions of orientation.
• Please register all guests through my.UIC.eduportal. Students should NOT register themselves as a guest

You can support your student’s success by:

• Encouraging them to take ownership of their experience
• Helping them stay organized and meet deadlines
• Reminding them to utilize campus resources
• Staying connected while allowing space for independence

Orientation is the beginning of your student’s UIC journey, and we are here to support both of you every step of the way.
